Ms. Sharon Smith
I was born and raised in Natalia and I attended school at Natalia ISD from Kindergarten, in Mrs. Taylor’s class, to High School where I had many excellent teachers. My senior year of high school I was in a work program offered at the high school. I had classes in the morning and a job in the afternoon. I have always wanted to be a teacher so my mom suggested I try for a job as an aide at the Early Childhood Center to make sure that teaching is what I really wanted to do. Ms. Perino hired me and I began working as a teacher’s aide with Mrs. Taylor (my kindergarten teacher). I truly fell in love with helping the students and knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I graduated from Natalia High school in 1994 (look for my picture at the high school) and attended Palo Alto College that summer. For the next two years I attended college I continued to work as an aide for another amazing teacher, Mr. Montez, who was a teacher at Natalia at that time. I learned so much about being a great teacher from him. I had to leave my job as an aide when I moved on to UTSA. Wanting to give back to my community and also teach alongside my kindergarten teacher Mrs. Taylor I applied and went to work at Natalia ECC after graduation in 1999. I taught PreK that year and moved to Kindergarten the following year where I taught for 13 years. For the past 6 years I have been teaching the district Prek 4 class and loving every moment. Some moments may be hard or stressful but I still have a passion for teaching and love for all of my students. I have always had a passion for teaching ever since I was a little girl playing school with my sister at home, to teaching Sunday school at my church when I was 15, and now teaching at Natalia ISD. God gives us all talents and abilities and I know that teaching is mine, so I pray that God would grant me wisdom and give me guidance and patience so that I may continue to do what I love.
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.
